ESO Celebrates Banner 70th Season with Beethoven, Brahms, Tchaikovsky & Other Favorites, Plus Evanston’s Own Howard Levy Playing His Harmonica Concerto and ‘Porgy and Bess’
The award-winning Evanston Symphony Orchestra is kicking off its 70th season on October 25 with a concert of much-loved favorites: Rossini’s William Tell Overture, Tchaikovsky’s The Tempest and Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade featuring concertmaster Julie Fischer in the prominent violin solos.
Young Persons' Concert on March 9
This one-hour concert at Pick-Staiger is the ideal introductory orchestral concert for children 5–13 years, but will also be fun for parents and grandparents. The concert is designed to show the wonderful storytelling nature of music.
The ESO will perform the ever-popular The Sorcerer’s Apprentice by Paul Dukas and also pieces like the Superman March by John Williams, and the delightful Mozart piece for strings only — Eine Kleine Nachtmusik.

The Evanston Symphony Orchestra May 14 Concert and May 12 “Musical Insights” Feature Violins of Hope Instruments
Evanston, Ill.—When the Evanston Symphony Orchestra plays Berlioz, Tchaikovsky, and Mussorgsky at its May 14 concert, six members will be bowing string instruments played by Jewish musicians before and during the Holocaust, as the ESO participates in the Violins of Hope program. The instruments, four violins, a viola and a cello, will also be on display with details of their histories during this concert’s “Musical Insights” preview May 12. “Musical Insights” is sponsored by The Merion, Evanston’s signature senior living experience.
