Howard Levy and Illinois Premiere Highlight Evanston Symphony Orchestra Valentine’s Day Concert

January 25, 2016

Evanston, IL — Harmonica virtuoso Howard Levy will join the Evanston Symphony Orchestra in his own Concerto for Diatonic Harmonica and Orchestra on Sunday February 14, 2016 at 2:30 PM at Pick-Staiger Concert Hall in Evanston. Conducted by Music Director Lawrence Eckerling, the concert marks the ESO debut of Evanston resident Levy, who will also provide improvisations of selected songs as part of the orchestral suite from George Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess.

This all-American concert also features the Illinois premiere of Dreamtime Ancestors by eminent composer Christopher Theofanidis. This 17 minute showpiece was specially commissioned by a consortium of approximately 50 U.S. orchestras, including the ESO. The suite from Aaron Copland’s film score for The Red Pony rounds out the program.

Advance tickets at $30 ($25 for seniors, $5 for full-time students) are available on-line at www.evanstonsymphony.org or by calling 847.864.8804. FREE children’s tickets (12 and under) are only available by calling 847.864.8804.

Founded in 1945, the Evanston Symphony was the Illinois Council of Orchestra’s “Orchestra of the Year” in 2010. The ESO mission is to provide community members of all ages with convenient, affordable opportunities to perform and hear fine classical music from locally, nationally and internationally renowned artists.
