Flutist Mindy Kaufman Highlights Opening of Evanston Symphony Orchestra’s Great Composers Season
October 4, 2019, Evanston, IL — The Evanston Symphony Orchestra will open its 74th season —titled Great Composers— at Pick-Staiger Concert Hall in Evanston conducted by Music Director Lawrence Eckerling on Sunday Nov. 10, 2019 at 2:30 PM. The program features renowned New York Philharmonic Orchestra flute/piccolo player Mindy Kaufman in both the Flute Concerto by Carl Nielsen and the Piccolo Concerto in C Major (RV 443) by Antonio Vivaldi.
Orchestral masterworks by the great Finnish composer Jean Sibelius, his ever popular Finlandia and his impassioned First Symphony, will open and close the program.
The second concert of the series in February will highlight virtuoso pianist Jeffrey Biegel in George Gershwin’s Concerto in F and include Ferde Grofé’s Grand Canyon Suite. Audience favorite Irina Muresanu returns in the Violin Concerto No 2 by Prokofiev in March; the orchestral highlight is Tchaikovsky’s Fourth Symphony.
The fourth and final concert is the first of two all-Beethoven concerts spread over the next two seasons, in honor of his 250th birthday. This May concert features the “Emperor” Piano Concerto (No 5) with Inna Faliks, plus the Symphony No 6 “Pastoral” and the Consecration of the House Overture.
Season subscriptions for the four concerts are available at $104 for adults, $88 for seniors (62 and over), $20 for full-time students and FREE for children 12 and under when accompanied by an adult.
