Raise a Chorus of Hallelujahs
… for the annual ESO Christmas Concert!
Sunday, December 8 at 3 PM
Evanston Township High School Auditorium
Lovers of holiday choral music, rejoice in one of the most beloved local holiday traditions – An Evanston Symphony Christmas! The Evanston Symphony Orchestra will ring in this Yuletide season with help from the North Shore Choral Society and the Evanston Children’s Choir.
In addition, singers from Evanston Township High School’s A Cappella Chorale will entertain before the concert and at intermission. Plus, Santa and his elves will lead a sing-along of favorite holiday carols.
An Evanston Symphony Christmas takes place December 8 at 3 p.m. at the Evanston Township High School Auditorium, 1600 Dodge in Evanston.
The North Shore Choral Society will perform A Feast of Carols by Randol Bass, the Evanston Children’s Choir will sing excerpts from Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Folk Songs of the Four Seasons, and all will join with the audience to sing the “Hallelujah Chorus” from Handel’s Messiah.
All three groups will combine in the Christmas at Home Medley, which includes “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas,” “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” and “We Need a Little Christmas,” arranged by local composer James Stephenson.
Other highlights of the program include the Evanston Dance Ensemble, which joins the ESO in excerpts from The Snow Maiden by Rimsky-Korsakov and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.
An added feature of this year’s concert is a special Holiday Bazaar in the ETHS cafeteria. Local artisans from Homegrown Artists and area businesses will have unique Christmas gift items for sale during intermission as well as before and after the concert. Admission to the Bazaar is free.
An Evanston Symphony Christmas is the largest indoor performance event in Evanston. Conducted by ESO Music Director Lawrence Eckerling, this holiday extravaganza features 100 musicians of the Evanston Symphony, more than 120 singers in the North Shore Choral Society, the dancers of the Evanston Dance Ensemble and the children in the Evanston Children’s Choir. This is the ninth year for this spectacular event, which attracts audiences of more than 1,000 annually.
