THE AMERICAN-FRENCH CONNECTION

This diverse program explores the close links between two groundbreaking French composers of the late 19th-early 20th century, Debussy and Ravel, and American 20th century giants Gershwin and Copland. Both Americans were strongly influenced by the French masters. Ravel in turn, referenced Gershwin in his Piano Concerto in G Major, played by rising star Ko-Eun Yi. Debussy’s Prelude is one of the masterworks of orchestral repertoire. The program is rounded out with the string orchestra version of William Grant Still’s Mother and Child.
