Most memorable performance with the ESO

Actually, there was one eye-opening event, and it wasn’t a performance, but a rehearsal. Some years back we were struggling with the complexities of Copland’s “El Salon Mexico” — that is, until a certain guest conductor stepped in for one rehearsal and suddenly made the music come alive to us all! That conductor happened to be none other than Larry Eckerling — and, as it is said, the rest is history.

Favorite ESO soloist

Janos Starker playing the Dvořák Cello Concerto

Why I like playing with the ESO

The challenge and ultimate joy of recreating beloved symphonic music with a “family” of fellow musician-friends — and I am grateful for this gift.

Favorite composer or piece

Howard Hanson’s Symphony No. 2, the “Romantic;” choral work: Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana”

When I’m not playing with the ESO, I’m…

Though retirement has quieted long-held passions for international travel and allied photographic journaling, I continue to enjoy artistic efforts, such as creating personalized greeting cards. And yes, the computer has me — cautiously — in its thrall.

Something most people don’t know about me

Baking, especially oven-baked breads, is a veritable hobby for me.
