Songs of the Season

Nothing brings fond holiday memories to mind quite like Christmas carols. The talented vocalists of the North Shore Choral Society will offer their renditions of See Amid the Winter’s Snow and the beloved Hallelujah Chorus from Handel’s Messiah. The rhythmic yet lyrical Gloria by Randol Bass is returning this year, which will also highlight the ESO brass section with its exultant fanfares.

Returning to the program is Tracey Rush’s Angels in the Snow, which this year will bring the North Shore Choral Society and the Evanston Children’s Choir together in song. These young singers will take center stage to introduce another work to the Evanston Symphony Holiday Concert audience: “Believe,” from the film The Polar Express. Their golden voices will add the perfect touch to this beautiful ballad.

If these highlights haven’t awoken your Christmas spirit, remember you can also enjoy the Evanston Township High School Advanced Vocal Ensemble, both before the concert and during intermission, in a cappella performances of all your favorite carols. The Evanston Symphony Holiday Gospel Choir will return to add some soul, and you can even join in the fun as Santa leads the holiday sing-along.
